If you try this, see if you can then browse the backup. So far, I just get a "flash" of the expandable options and then they vanish from the screen. I'm not an expert on TrueCrypt so I may have something configured incorrectly. I can browse a standard TI file backup just fine. Trying to include files from both C: and from a TrueCrypt volume into a backup fails, but no error is reported in the log. I have to correct myself, sorry Acronis: the deletion of the environmental variable was on my behalf - working the registry manually there was a reference to Acronis and I deleted the whole path Nevertheless: as long as uninstall routines don't work shit happens.
This works fine with XP but many programs don't see the mounted file system. Acronis TIH did - so I could at least perform a file backup. I am on TIH build Tend to agree with Peter , the ability to see mounted truecrypt drives is missing from TIH at the moment. I will continue to use TIH for my scheduled system drive backups, as this is my primary use for TI, I suspect over time TIH will undergo build uplifts that will restore the ability of TIH to see truecrypt mounted drives.
Always seem to get these kind of problems on first release of any software, par for the course these days. TIH does see and can handle encrypted system drives on my computer drive C: and can back it up as image or file backup: no problem. Still waiting for any reaction by Acronis, being aware that it may not be that trivial solving this thing.
OK, I've seen Anton's statement in the other thread, Acronis is working on it. So far so good. Meanwhile I got an answer for my support request: do a sector by sector image with your rescue disk.
OK Anton, if there's any question or anything I can do to solve this point, do not hesitate to contact me. I am running a Win7 Machine with one encrypted System Partition and two encrypted non system partitions.
The non system partitions are mounted automatically during system start using pre boot authentication. Doing drive backups is no Problem unfortunately only sector by sector for the two non system partitions but doing file based backups of the non system partitions is impossible because True Image does not show the drives.
But now the good news: I found a workaround we can use till there is a proper solution. Just mount the encrypted partitions onto an NTFS junction point that resides in the root folder of the encrypted system partition and use this junction points to do file backups.
My system consists of 3 encrypted partitions. This seems to work fine! Nice work around. Before I go to work and start again!! I don't know if it was just something in my tests or not, but I couldn't restore the ones I backed up when mounted as removable. I'm hoping that problem doesn't affect your method I haven't tried it yet. Thanks for the work round, works fine for me , I use a truecrypt "encrypted file container ".
Does not seem to affect the restored files I can edit documents , move and delete files. Looks like the process removes the security settings for the files, these can easily be reapplied by adding myself as the object owner. Hello All. Please accept our apologies for the late response. We've created a new ticket in our internal tracking system ID It will be fixed in the upcoming update of Acronis True Inage Home in months.
Thank you for your feedback. So for those of us who cannot get ATIH to work satisfactorily on our systems in the way we want, we will have to wait yet another 2 months for an update to that will then take me just over the year to get something that may work over the failings of ATIH When this update comes out can you guarantee that ALL Acronis products will then work together - when will the updates to the others be released so that we can all be assured that we have a suite of software that works correctly individually and also together?
I hope that Acronis will be extending the free support period so that we all have the chance to download, install and test these updates and have support for any issues we find. I just wanted to point out, that I got the same problem since upgrading and that I am hoping for a solution in the next update, as promised in one of the messages before, as I think there are quite some peoples who are concernec by this issue Hello, I also have the same written problems with truImageHome File-Backups of encrypted TrueImage7.
Windows7 Explorer perfectly sees the files and folders. Backup of encrypted system Volume c: also works fine. This must be fixed by Acronis engineers. As it is an basic feature of a backup software to backup files and folders. I am also very disappointed that Acronis is not able to timely resolve that issue. I get the feeling that early adopters are used just as beta testers.
That would be OK only in case I need not pay for the product. Just to tell you my personal conlusion: While I was recommending Acronis True Image to everyone as THE solution for backing up their computer I will tell them now: Look for an alternative. So am I. I'd wait, myself, at least until the end of November before giving up entirely on Acronis managing to fix the problem. I have recently purchased and returned TIH.
Just came back to this thread to see if there is a solution by now. Seems that this is not taken very seriously by acronis. I should have received my refund by now. Good luck everyone with this backup-software which cannot see the files to backup :D. I believe a fix is imminent in regards to the TrueCrypt problem, though I would think there are some other things that are being ironed out as well. By imminent I'm still going with the end of this month as my best guess.
There is nothing special in viewing TrueCrypt drives within a file dialog. With True Image Home , I'm not able to select the files I have to backup when they are located in a drive folder which is mounted by TrueCrypt. True Image is completely worthless to me.

It will be your backup volume so its size should match or be greater than the size of your main volume. If you follow the above steps, you will help prevent adversaries from finding out: Which sectors of the volumes are changing because you always follow step 1.
That one of the volumes is a backup of the other. To back up an encrypted system partition securely and safely, it is recommended to follow these steps: If you have multiple operating systems installed on your computer, boot the one that does not require pre-boot authentication. Or might it be the easiest way, just to create a TC container with different password and so on on my external drive and copy all file from the decrypted partition there? This would take the most time i guess, but might be the safest option.
SYS , Mar 5, What I would suggest would be to use a backup solution of your choice, and back up in the clear. You could also use encryption if your solution supports it.
Then its still not in the clear, and smaller than a sector by sector. Then just physically secure the external media somewhere. Thats the simplest. Remember, if your HD completely goes down, you'll need to be able to read your backup images. If they aren't encrypted, that makes it a lot simpler.
If they are encrypted, you'll need to be able to boot into a working OS to access the images with TrueCrypt, along with the TrueCrypt Rescue CD to recover your boot loader. KookyMan , Mar 5, The first choice will show the True Crypt drive, the second choice will not. When I click on the backed up image I get a True Crypt logging on screen. However I have not yet an occasion to restore the backed up copy.

No compression didn't want to risk buggering up the encryption on restoration. This succeeded but it took 13 hours, including verification of the backup. However, when I came to restoring the partition ATI would not let me select the C: partition as a target partition.
Partitions which are deemed to be 'already restored' or not large enough to restore the image to are automatically greyed out. Since I made a sector-by-sector image of C: the image should be exactly the same size as the partition and so ATI should have let me restore it there. Normal compression. This took 40 minutes to make an image of about 40Gb.
