Interview and Selection Applicants are screened for interviews that occur in November and December of each year. The advanced specialty education program in oral and maxillofacial surgery is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation CODA. Candidates who complete the program are eligible for examination by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

This, coupled with core clinical clerkships, allows the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery resident to receive a medical education without compromise. The core rotations in medical school are structured to include rotations which also meet mandated residency requirements.

Medical School — After completing a six-month rotation on the OMFS service, residents begin medical school in the winter of their first year. During the medical school period of OMFS training, residents receive a stipend and benefits.

In addition, residents will be responsible for occasional on-call nights with the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery to gain clinical experience during medical school. Receipt of the MD degree can occur only after a matriculant has met all of the academic, personal, and clinical requirements of both the OMS Residency Program and the School of Medicine. Withdrawal or termination from the School of Medicine will also terminate participation in the OMS residency program.

During this time, they have the full responsibilities given to interns on the general surgery service. Specialty rotations include: anesthesia, plastic surgery, surgical oncology, gastrointestinal surgery, thoracic surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, transplant surgery, trauma surgery, surgical intensive care, and oral and maxillofacial surgery.

The Selection Committee will not consider any incomplete application. Please ensure that your ADEA Pass application, the Einstein secondary and the letters of recommendation are received before the application deadline.

Buchbinder is the director of the post-graduate maxillofacial surgery training program. He is currently professor and director of the division of maxillofacial surgery, department of otolaryngology and head and neck surgery at Mount Sinai Downtown , Mount Sinai West and the Chief of Oral and Maxillofacial of the Mount Sinai Health System. Buchbinder has published over peer-reviewed articles and has lectured extensively on cranio-maxillofacial trauma management, computer assisted surgery, reconstruction and the use of osseointegration.

Buchbinder is a member of the board of trustees of the AO foundation, a non-profit organization based on a network of surgeons who are committed to the study, practice, and teaching of AO principles and their advancement in the field of trauma and musculoskeletal surgery.

Michael D. Turner is considered a thought leader and a national expert in the field of minimally invasive salivary gland surgery sialoendoscopy , as well as having a considerable interest and expertise in maxillofacial trauma and orthognathic surgery.
