Product Configurator. Certified Local Partners. Dantz foundered, earning a reputation for miserly customer support and increasingly buggy products. They never really adjusted to OS X; the code base was probably too old to fix and they'd deferred a rewrite for too long.
EMC bought Retrospect, and I figured that was the end. It was indeed the end for the Macintosh product line, it's not been updated in years and it's hard to believe it will be sold after I found this out because Retrospect Pro 6.
It was failing with cryptic error messages, it's a few years old, and I was using it in an unsupported fashion with clients released for newer server versions -- there was no sense trying to fix it. I had to either upgrade or switch to individual machine backup - a thought too painful to consider.
I'd held off upgrading for years because Dantz releases were so buggy an "upgrade" only introduced new issues - and left the old issues unchanged.
EMC looked worse at first -- no user forums, no trials, nothing. In the past six months or so, however, EMC reinstated user forums and, above all, provided 30 day trial versions of all their products. I just tested this and the only way you'll see this problem is if you manually moved the Retrospect application folder from it's original location. Once the folder is moved InstallShield no longer knows the location of the folder to upgrade.
The upgrade will be installed to the default location:. Opening the Retrospect. I am using Wondows XP Pro. I uninstalled it, reinstalled it and then tried to install 7. It appears to be installing as "Setup BD installing network driver" text is visible. Then I get a memo that my LAN is now connected; then I get an error message saying that my router is disconnected. I turned off my Norton firewall. Same messages. I checked in the drive location and clicked on Retrospect 7.
It boots up but help about says it is still 7. I have tried the automated download and downloaded it to my C drive and tried to install it manually. It would appear that the installation process is knocking my system off the internet which it needs to perform the installation.
Abakadabra: You have to uninstall 7. Do not reinstall 7. Also, looking at the messages you describe, it looks like windows is trying to install something else instead of Retrospect. It could be that there are some leftovers from another windows install in your temp directory. You should clean that directory before installing.
I tried what you recommended but no joy. I reinstalled. Retrospect Express HD 2. Retrospect A StorCentric Company. Products Personal. Single Server 5.
