Windows server 2003 smtp client

But, If I reply to a mail, it does not go through. The mail gets lost. I do not get any error. I can send, receive and forward emails.

But cannot use "Reply" to reply back to the sender. Any thoughts? I have not installed Microsoft Exchange Server not sure if this matters. Regards Raju. Sunday, March 22, AM. I can get email via the exchange client and through outlook on a client PC. However I do not seem to be able to send.

Whoever I send to, it comes back undeliverable with the message: "Could not deliver the message in the time limit specified " I have tried 2 different smtp servers from 2 completely different hosts and get the same message. If I send from a outlook direct through smtp ie without going through exchange, it works fine. Thanks for your help. Then again I could be wrong and it wont be the last time. See Attached. I have tried both - entering my smtp server in the smart hosts box. Under this there is Current Sessions which is always blank. Any thoughts? I've not used the latest version of Exchange. However, from what you describe, it sounds like it is similar to previous versions. In this case, Exchange will look at the domain the bit after the in the e-mail address for each message destination and request the local DNS server to retrieve the MX record for that domain's SMTP server.

That will give Exchange the IP address of the mail server supporting the destination domian. Exchange will then forward the message to that mail server. The second option is to simply forward all message to your ISP's mailserver and let that server do all the work described above.

In this tutorial we will use the latter, because it's the quickest way to get this up and running. Manage Your Server is a bit easier to use too, because it will prompt you for the domain you want to use during setup.

That will not Add or Remove Windows Components do, and we have to do everything manually. This will start the Configure Your Server Wizard. Read the text and make sure you have connected all the necessary cables and all the other things it says you should do before continuing. The wizard will now detect your network settings. We will add the Mail Server role. I also suggest that before you click Next , click Read about mail servers because this tutorial is not a complete reference.

It is an important decision which method to use, because once you have chosen, you must delete all email domains on the server to change method from now on, you can migrate Encrypted File user accounts to AD, but nothing else can be migrated.
